love weddings: The look on a groom’s face when he first sees his bride; those cheesy kissing games that you play during dinner; and those long, overdrawn speeches that can bring you simultaneously to stitches and to tears. When Jen Bakker (B-Side Photography) gave me the opportunity to second shoot with her for Tyler and Mandy’s wedding, I couldn’t wait to capture those moments through my lens. Every wedding tells its own story, and it’s our job as photographers to make those moments unforgettable.
We found Mandy’s family cottage at the end of a long gravel road, lined by tall evergreens. The weather was perfect: not a grey cloud in the sky, and the air had that brilliant warmth that you knew would keep you warm long after sunset. As we walked down the long wooden staircase to the beach I took in the view of the lake below and realized how lucky I was to be part of this memorable occasion. Mandy greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel completely welcomed in her childhood vacation home. Together, her and Tyler had planned a stunningly intimate wedding day that truly reflected the relaxed vibe of the cottage.
Tyler and Mandy, I feel truly blessed to have been part of this cherished occasion and I wish you all the best as you begin your new lives together.

Tyler and his groomsmen prepared for the big day at a neighbour’s cottage, just a short boat ride away from where Mandy and her girls were getting ready. The cottage was buzzing with excited friends and family, all wanting to help Tyler and his groomsmen prepare for this special day.

One of my favourite moments of the morning was watching these lovely ladies assist Tyler with his bow tie, with a little help of course from the magic of YouTube.

Seriously, how adorable is their little ring bearer? He did a stellar job in his straw fedora…

After the ceremony, the happy couple slipped away for a quiet canoe ride around the lake. I just loved this idea and thought it was a perfect way to enjoy some alone time on this busy day.

Working with Jen Bakker was an absolute privilege. Not only is she an incredibly talented photographer and wonderful with clients, but she is also a skilled craftswoman! Jen both designed and built this one of a kind Photo Box that can be rented for weddings, parties and other events, which had guests smiling and laughing all through the night.

Nothing ends a lakeside wedding more perfectly than a summer sunset. Many congratulations to the happy couple on this momentous occasion, and I wish you all the best for your new lives together.
Warmly,
Amy
