Not everything at Kaitlin and Charles’ backyard microwedding went as planned (which I think every person in the entire world can understand in 2020)…but, yet…it was still perfect and exactly what was needed.

Long before COVID-19 took the world by storm, there was a plan for Kaitlin and Charles to get married at The Opinicon. Literally the cutest venue along the Rideau River with the potential for a lakeside ceremony and accommodations for guests to stay overnight. Unfortunately – due to the pandemic – those quaint little cottages have had to shut down (which is hopefully only temporary)…this, as a result, meant that Kaitlin and Charles would have to reconsider all their plans for their 2020 wedding. What came from this was the sweetest lakeside microwedding on their property in Gananoque. Marianne from Heirloom Events helped jazz up their lakeside property with brightly colourful florals, which popped on every table and corner of the backyard. My favourite floral accent was the one on their wooden ceremony arbour, which decorated the altar and the head table when it came time for dinner.

With this wedding having so many navy accents, it completely made our day to see that the bridal party (who wore navy blue bridesmaids dresses or ties) had also brought navy masks to wear whenever social distancing was a concern. The bride and groom also had themed masks, with the bride wearing a cute white lace mask, and the groom with a solid black one to match his classic black suit.

All in all, this wedding wasn’t what we’d expected it would be a year ago…but – when you really break it down – it’s also exactly what it was meant to be: two people, promising forever through the good and the bad (and heck, has 2020 had a plenty of each)!!
