Birth video and newborn photos from a home birth in Ottawa
If you’re ever given the chance to have your labour and delivery documented by a birth photographer or videographer, please – for the love of all things holy – do it! I promise you won’t regret it…you want to know how I really know? Well, I’ve been on both sides of the camera! We welcomed my daughter, Rose, to the world about 4 months ago at the Ottawa Birth Centre, and the photos that my birth photographer (ie. my bestie, Nicole Fee Photography) took mean more to me than I could ever truly explain in this blog post.
I had the pleasure of pulling myself out of maternity leave to document a birth for my dear friends Brittney and Evan, who have been on my blog so many times, that you might even say they’ve been ‘regulars’ on this site (hehe)! It’s kind of a funny thing to say, but if I think back to my friendship with the Finches, it really does cover so many huge life milestones: from their engagement, to their wedding, to the birth of their first born, to their newborn photos, and now to their home birth in Ottawa! I am beyond lucky to have met them through my business as an Ottawa photographer, but even luckier to now be able to call them my good friends!
I decided to try my hand at birth videography for the labour and delivery of baby Hudson, and I’m hooked on the emotion behind this video!
I’ll never forget how hard Britt worked to have her baby at home under the guidance of the Ottawa Valley Midwives! It was an absolute privilege to see her deliver her baby boy at home without any pain medications, and to see how her husband, Evan, helped her through contractions with counter pressure and positive affirmations. They are such an incredible team and I will never forget what a gift it was to be there that day! Welcome to the world, baby Hudson!
