Courtney and Darrell were married at Sidedoor Restaurant Contemporary Kitchen and Bar in a colourful Ottawa restaurant wedding!
It was a wedding filled with stories: from the groom’s sister getting stuck in an elevator for 90 minutes during bride prep…to grandma taking a bad fall on rehearsal night (ps. she’s okay!!)…to having to restart the ceremony after the bridesmaids had already walked down the aisle because of rain…
…but you know what comes after sun showers…the most gorgeous rainbow that seemed to arch right over the restaurants in the Byward Market. One has to wonder the coincidence of it all, and the thought of it appearing just as Courtney was about to walk down the aisle makes me smile!!
Courtney and Darrel’s Ottawa restaurant wedding was decorated by the amazing wedding planning team at Frid Events. With subtle hints of Harry Potter (table 9 3/4…’whomping’ willow table decor…’floating’ candles…) and custom dinner menus and signage; the room came alive with personality and charm. My favourite elements of their decor were the huge floral centrepieces – Frid is known for creating big, beautiful blooms!! – and the coordinating cranberry candlesticks, which lit up the restaurant at dinnertime.
Enjoy this sneak peek of Courtney and Darrel’s downtown Ottawa restaurant wedding at Sidedoor!!
Andaz Ottawa has to be one of my favourite locations for getting-ready photos in Ottawa! This boutique hotel is the definition of luxury with its modern decor and views of parliament and the Byward Market!
If you ask Darrell what his favourite moments from his wedding day were, I have no doubt that this next moment at groom prep would make the top 5!! You see, Darrell has a thing for watches. When he first started collecting them as a teenager, he had his eyes set on one particular watch…but at the time they told him that you couldn’t just start with that watch…no, no…you had to earn it…
Well, Courtney must have agreed that that moment had finally come!
What better place to have a first look that at one of Ottawa’s most scenic backdrops!
It was around this time that we were all ready and lined up for the ceremony…the bridesmaids had just walked down the aisle and Courtney and her dad were just about to step out of the restaurant and start their walk…
…but the skies had different plans…
…without warning, the heavens opened with rain so thick that we had to put the ceremony on hold. Of course, the delay did have its perks…
Round two – only a few minutes later – and all smiles!
A final toast to ‘The Mayos’ and to a reception filled with dancing, laughter, and – of course! – the famous Sidedoor donuts ;)
Courtney, Darrell!! Your day has so many stories that I’ll never forget, and it’s these stories that will be handed down for generations! That rainbow could not have been timed more perfectly and I hope you’re reminded of that moment every time you look up and see a rainbow in the sky! Thank you for all the thoughtful details you put in to your day (the subtle nod to your favourite book series; the sweet gifts at prep; and the decor that wowed everyone at Sidedoor)!!
And to all the friends, family and wedding party members; thank you for making us feel so welcomed!! We had the best time celebrating with you and I hope you love this sneak peek!!
