Wondering whether or not you should bring your dog to your engagement session? My vote: always yes! Especially if you’re as wild for being a dog-parent as Katie and Alex…I get the impression that Dexter is an actual member of their family (as it should be!), and I had the best time with this little fur-fam at this spring Arboretum engagement session!

You might remember a while back, I wrote this list on 5 tips for bringing your dog to your engagement session, and those lessons still hold true! I was so excited to hear that one of my past brides (and one of Katie’s best friends), Alisha, would be joining us for their engagement session to help take care of Dexter between shots. This is my ideal scenario for introducing pup into photos, allowing for them to be a part of the scene when the timing feels right and then having some doggie-free photos in between too.

Everything came together perfectly for this session, with the timing of the spring blooms in the Arboretum (which is always tricky to plan, given the short time frame of spring blooms!) and the glow of the sun at golden hour. These will forever be some of my favourite photos from an engagement session at the Arboretum! But what makes them extra special? You guessed it – it’s the people in them! I met Katie a few years back at Alisha and Matt’s wedding, and I was so excited when she reached out to tell me that her and Alex were engaged! I was instantly on board to photograph their wedding at Stonefields in 2023! To say I’m excited for their day is a huge understatement, especially after how much fun we had at their engagement session. They are naturals on camera and their wedding day at Stonefields will be such a highlight of 2023!
